About Me
Packaging Equipment, Pneumatic Conveyor Lines, and Everything In-Between: Industrial Equipment

If you run a manufacturing facility or a factory, you have to be responsible for a lot of equipment and supplies. This blog is here to help with that aspect of your job. Some posts cover how to identify when you need to repair or replace equipment. Other blogs contain tips on how to maintain your equipment. My name is John, and I've always been interested in how machinery and industrial equipment works. On this site, I plan to write about everything from packaging equipment, to pneumatic conveyor lines, and everything in between. Whether you work in an industrial environment, own a business, or run a facility, I think you'll find my posts interesting. Share them with your colleagues if you like.

Actions to Take When Putting Hydraulic Seals on Cylinders

Since there are openings in hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic seals are needed to close them up so that the cylinders work how they're supposed to. If you want your seals doing their job effectively, perform these actions when getting them into the correct position.

Review Protocol Differences Between a Fresh Install and a Replacement

Before you get this hydraulic seal installation underway, you want to note that there might be different protocols involved when setting seals up on hydraulic cylinders for the first time and replacing the seals that are already on your cylinders.

Finding out the differences for sure will save you from making mistakes that could dramatically impact how your hydraulic cylinders perform after this installation process is over. For instance, a fresh install might require additional preparations like cleaning the cylinder thoroughly before placing seals into their proper position.

Consider Heating for Easier Installation

When you first get hydraulic seals, they may be pretty rigid and difficult to manipulate. You don't have to just accept this quality but can instead heat them up to make them more elastic. Then you'll have an easier time placing them around sections of your hydraulic cylinders that need to be sealed because of openings being present.

Heating doesn't take that much effort on your part. You can just soak the seals in a hot lubricant that is specifically designed for hydraulic seals. That will change their properties to make them much easier to manipulate during installation on hydraulic cylinders.

Make Sure Your Setup Tools Are Appropriate

A lot of people get into trouble with hydraulic seal installation because they don't focus on using the right tools. The wrong tool can do a lot of damage to the seals, such as causing them to tear and get out of their optimal shape.

Before this installation starts, review the exact tools you need for proper handling and installation. The seal manufacturer should show you what tools are needed. You just need to find these instructions and then double-check your tool inventory to make sure you have everything for a smooth and successful seal installation.

If your hydraulic cylinders need replacement seals or you're putting some on for the very first time, coming in with strategies is highly recommended. You'll then limit the number of issues you'll run into, which can save you a lot of additional work and keep costs within a manageable range.
